Every year, thanks to your generous donations, we provide Qurbani across the globe to people in need.

SubhanAllah, last year we reached a staggering 3.3 million people, distributing over 578,000 meat packs in 29 places across the globe.

One of the many places where your Qurbani reached vulnerable people in need was Bangladesh.

Here, a staggering 49% of children under the age of five are malnourished.

With a fifth of the 163 million population living on less than £1.40 a day, meat is simply a luxury that many people cannot afford.

That’s why we supported 630 orphaned families with female-headed households struggling with the loss of their main breadwinner. Our programme worked to provide critical aid for families struggling with devastating poverty, elderly persons and individuals living with disabilities.

We distributed a staggering 1,380kg of meat to support 715 struggling families, all thanks to your generous donations. Alhamdulillah!

Sharing joy and happiness, one of the main objectives of our Qurbani programme was also to raise awareness on good nutritional habits.

Sadly, these families rarely eat meat due to the cost. A lack of protein however is damaging to our wellbeing. That’s why we not only distributed Qurbani but informed the communities we were helping.

One of the many people we helped was Rina.

Rina is 32 years old. Sadly, she became a widow when her son Antor was just three months old.

Living with her now 12-year-old son and mother, Rina is a contractual worker in a fish processing company. Her mother also makes handicrafts at home.

However, despite working the family is living in poverty.

Rina: Celebrating Eid al-Adha with your Qurbani

Rina with her Qurbani from Islamic Relief.

Having lost the main breadwinner of the family, Rina’s struggling to make ends meet.

That’s why the family is benefiting from our orphan sponsorship programme, enabling us to help Rina’s son Antor on a daily basis:

I am the main breadwinner of my family. I have no option but to work… on my days off. My elderly mother makes handicrafts at home and sells to local markets.

However, these jobs do not provide regular income. Islamic Relief gives us money for my son under its orphan sponsorship programme. (Rina, Bangladesh)

When we spoke to Rina, she couldn’t stop her tears. She’s struggling immensely to support her family:

We try our best to earn enough to run the house but there is no work and we rely only on Allah. There is no shame to say during this pandemic, we cannot afford to buy any meat…

Alhamdulillah, after a long time we have cooked beef. Otherwise, we eat beef once or twice a year.

We hardly buy any meat as the price is too high. We try to buy meat whenever a relative visits us. It’s simply not affordable.

Meat provides protein, fat, minerals and energy. We are suffering from malnutrition as we rarely eat meat. Our body’s immunity is not strong and as a result, we suffer from… health problems.

Alhamdulillah, thanks to your generous donations, Rina and her family were able to enjoy delicious meat over the sacred days of Eid al-Adha.

A happy family after eating their Qurbani meat (Rina, her mother and son).

Your Qurbani, as well as your generous support towards our child support programmes, have provided happiness and relief to Rina and her family:

This was the first time ever that we had to go for days without rice…

Islamic Relief helped us to improve our lives. Without Islamic Relief’s help and support I would not have managed my child’s education and we’d not have been able to eat a proper diet.

We belong to an impoverished area where most people cannot sacrifice animals.

We are very pleased to receive this meat pack. Islamic Relief provided us with fresh meat from healthy animals. When we cooked the fresh meat, we were so happy.

I am very grateful to Islamic Relief and its donors.

Thank you for supporting Rina and her family. Thank you for bringing them happiness.

Giving Qurbani is obligatory for every Muslim who is financially able to do so.

Reap the rewards of the 10 best days.
