An estimated 63,531 hectares of land have been submerged in water with 638,000 people (116,000 households) have lost their crops due to the damage.

A total of 415 schools have been affected of which 234 have had their roofs blown off, submerged or collapsed; and 181 school blocks are being used as camps.

Many displaced people are in urgent need of tents, food and clean water – as well as essential items including mosquito nets, blankets, and hygiene packs.

Islamic Relief in Malawi

Islamic Relief has been working in Malawi for over a decade and was able to mobilise teams quickly to reach affected people.

Our initial emergency response was to deliver emergency food to families in the districts of Chikwawa and Blantyre,  as well as other essential items such as hygiene kits.

Recently, singer and songwriter, Zain Bhikha joined in the relief effort, helping to deliver food packs to 180 families in Likotima village, Blantyre.

To support our Malawi appeal, please donate towards the Global Emergencies Fund.
